Question:
1) Are soccer tournaments permissible?
2) Is it gambling to participate in a soccer tournament where one pays a registration fee and one wins a prize?
3) Is it permissible to have soccer tournaments in the name of the Musaajid and in the name of Deen?
Answer
Bismi Ta`ala
- If the prize monies of such tournaments are generated from the entrance fees of each team then it will be considered gambling. However if the prize monies are sponsored by a third-party and the entrance fees are not used ,it will not be considered as gambling.
- Soccer tournaments are not allowed as it leads to fights, quarrels, animosity, intermingling of sexes, photography, wastage of time and many other prohibitions in islam.
