- Is it permissible for a lady to wear make-up and leave the house?
Usually at functions women wear make-up. Many functions nowadays say there’s separate sections for men and women, but as we know that there’s many glitches to this. At the entrances men and women have to cross paths…. Also, sometimes some men enter the women’s section.
Answer
It is impermissible for a woman to wear make-up and leave the house. The wearing of make-up should be done to beautify oneself for the husband inside the house. Beautification in front of a non mahram is impermissible.
It is mentioned in Fatawa Qasimiyyah
“To apply lipstick (make-up)which does not contain any impurity , inside the house with the intention of pleasing the husband whilst maintaining the laws of pardah (from non- Mahram men) is permissible.”
It was narrated from Abu Moosa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If a woman puts on perfume and passes by people so that they can smell her fragrance, then she is such and such,” and he spoke sternly – meaning an adulteress. Narrated by Abu Dawood (4173) and al-Tirmidhi (2786)
